Stage 3 and 4 'Working with
Others'.

Eduteams is an immersive team-based software package built to ensure effective development of core and enterprise skills for young people.
Eduteams is a multiplayer system, specifically designed for groups of pupils to play on individual PCs (or Macs) over a network. Teams can be made up of pupils within the same class, in different classrooms and even different buildings.
Eduteams allows teachers to think outside the box and introduce game play, in an educational context, into the classroom. Eduteams promotes a Learning by Doing approach, a huge benefit of learning through computer games; the learner can practice those vital skills time and time again each time realising the consequences of their actions, reflecting, planning and reinforcing the learning in a safe environment.
Teachers have recognised changes within their pupils after using Eduteams once and even greater changes over a course of weeks, such as; increased communication, individuals realising the benefits of team work, shy pupils becoming less inhibited and disengaged pupils becoming involved and motivated by Eduteams.
Core Skills are essential to everyday life for everyone from work to our social lives, from the dustman to a lawyer. All industries all walks of life require core skills.
Employers rate core skills highly and emphasize that they are an integral part of moving up the career ladder. Not including core skills at school level could seriously affect a young person's future career progress.
Just under 50% of Scottish employers state that school leavers are not prepared enough for work in terms of their core skills, including; team work, communication, and problem solving (Future Skills Scotland, 2004). This does not portray a positive image of the Scottish Education market in terms of developing core skills at school level.
Scottish employers also cite that skill gaps mainly arise because of a weakness in core skills amongst school leavers. The specific skills in which employers found applicants deficient, were in:
- 60% Oral communication skills
- 52% Customer handling skills
- 50% Problem solving skills
- 43% Team working skills
- 42% Other technical and practical skills
- 39% Planning and organising
- 30% Written communication skills
- 29% Literacy skills
- 24% Using numbers
- 21% Strategic management skills
- 15% Basic computer literacy/using IT
- 10% Advanced IT or software skills
Eduteams incorporates core skills into the game play, making it essential to use team work, communication, problem solving, literacy and numeracy and IT skills to complete each part of the game. Users become immersed in the environment, and because of Eduteams′ ability to allow the player to reflect on the game play and recognise the cause of their actions, the development of core skills is engaging and motivating for the player, the way learning should be!
